8 Things I Hope to Do Before 40

Well guys it happened!

This weekend marked my 32nd year on this earth.

Which doesn’t seem that long, considering where I’m at and where I hope to be. But also makes me feel like ‘God, you’re ancient!’.

The mind is such a funny thing.

Anyhoo…

As I mentioned in last week’s post where I shared 8 things I’m glad I did in my twenties, today I’m sharing 8 things I hope to do before 40.

Because 40 is basically the new 20 – amirite?? 😅

Read on for a snapshot of my bucket list!

8 Things I Hope to Do Before 40

Travel to Japan

I’ve done a good bit of traveling throughout Europe since moving here. Though there are still a number of places I’ve yet to see. However one big trip I would love to do within the next few years – especially if we’re still in London, is to go East to Japan.

The Far East is an area of the world I have yet to experience. And I think it would be an amazing trip to take with either just the hubs (leaving the kiddos with grandma & grandpa!) or as a whole family – though I’d want to wait till the boys were a bit older so they could really appreciate the experience.

Visit 5 places I’ve never been to before

As I mentioned there’s still a number of places around Europe, Africa, and even the UK that I haven’t seen. And while I highly doubt we’ll still be living here by the time I reach 40 (though, who knows, stranger things have happened). I want to do my best and make the most of the time we have left, and see all that we can. It’s going to get extra tricky with 2 little ones in tow, but there are plenty of traveling families out there that prove it can be done!

Buy a house

I feel like this a thing you’re obligated to want at some point in your life. I’ll admit I was never much of a “homemaker” per se, but becoming a mom has made me more keen on having a place to call our own.

Not to mention the over abundance of home design shows that somehow suck you in to binge watching 10 in a row, and by the end of it you’re ready to knock down walls, paint, and upgrade all your kitchen hardware. But then you have to remind yourself that you’re renting and your landlord would probably be less than thrilled with your amateur attempts at home redesign…

So yeah, all that to say, I’m ready to have a place that I have full control over and can make what I want out of it.

Build a community through my blog

Blogging and I have had our ups and downs, which I believe would be true with any sort of creative pursuit. But no matter what, I keep coming back to the ol’ girl. It’s very much a means of creative expression for me and something that I enjoy challenging myself in to do better.

When in Chicago, I’d become an active member of the blogging community. But with the move to London and new life role as mommy, I definitely fell out of the circle. So this is something I’m pushing for, not even before I’m 40, but within the next year to reconnect and grow within the community.

Get more tattoos

You would never know this, but I’m a bit tattoo obsessed. I only have one, but I have a whole list of other tattoos I’d love to get. Problem has been every time I’m ready to get a new one, I’m pregnant or breastfeeding and they say it’s a big no-no to get tattoos during those times. So I’m hoping I’ll be able to squeeze in a couple new ones after baby #2 comes along and before I hit the big 4-0.

Host more dinner parties

Remember in my previous post about how I used to be partier? Well, while my clubbing days are behind me, I’m still very much a fan of a good house party. When I think about it the hubs and I were actually quite the hosts back in Chicago – we threw summer parties, holiday parties, birthday parties, just because parties. We’re just all about bringing together good people, good food, and having a good time.

Moving to London, becoming parents, and having a smaller group of friends introduced us to the magic of dinner parties. Which I would love to do more of, especially once we (hopefully) move to a bigger place with more space for entertaining.

Get back into boxing

I know that spin classes are still all the rage, but I personally could never get into them. I did, however, find to really enjoy going to boxing classes as a workout. Not actually battling in the ring, but punching a bag paired with other full-body exercises really – for lack of a better term – pumped me up. Yeah I was usually wiped after a workout, but I also felt super strong and badass – I am woman, hear me ROAR! It’s something I’d love to get back into and see how far I can challenge myself to go.

Embrace the direction of my “career”

I saved the biggest for last. This is a tough one to explain, and one of the reasons I put “career” in quotations – because I’m not so sure what my career really is. It’s something I’ve struggled with all throughout my twenties. And while not having a set direction has allowed for me to be open to a variety of opportunities, it’s also made me feel a bit lost.

I 100% appreciate the fact that I can stay home with my kids during this time, but I know it’s not something I want to do forever – especially once they start going to school.

But figuring out what direction I want to go in, what direction I CAN go in is the tricky bit. This is definitely something that I’ll go more in-depth on and revisit here on the blog as time progresses. 40 is still a ways away, but as we all know – time flies.

And that’s it! Those are the 8 things I hope to do before 40.

I’d love to hear from you – what are some things you hope to do before your next milestone birthday?
