6 Style Trends Totally On My Radar for 2018

style trends for 2018

Full disclosure – these trends aren’t particularly new or groundbreaking.

In fact I think most of them were consider the hot new thing last year or even the year before that.

But #longhairdontcare 💁🏾‍♀️

I’ve never been one to jump on brand new trends straight away unless it’s something I really really REALLY love and see it becoming more of a staple than a passing fad.

I like being aware of what’s hot and fresh, but I don’t get too excited about trends till after the fashion innovators and style influencers have had their go at it.

Only then am I like – “hmm, are culottes still a thing? Maybe I should try them…” or “you know what – loafer slides seem fun, let me grab a pair”.

Plus anyone can google ‘fashion trends for 2018’ and find the same 10 things regurgitated over and over again.

But when it comes to my personal style, what do I think will be trending in my closet this year – regardless of what the fashion elite say?

6 Style Trends for 2018

Mixed Prints

Mixing prints was all the rage about 5 years ago, but then faded to the background as the minimalism trend took over.

But according to the fashion gods mixing prints is making its way round again, and I ain’t mad about it.

I’ve always loved mixing, matching or even clashing prints.

So I’m thrilled to see this trend come back around and in a new way.

Get ready to see prints, prints, and more prints from me this year!

Raw Hem & Distressed Denim

This is definitely not new or groundbreaking trend. But to be honest, I’ve never been a big denim girl.

Until I got pregnant.

For some reason, maternity jeans totally flipped a switch in me. And now that the maternity jeans are no longer fitting {huzzah! 👏🏾}, I’m ready to invest in a denim collection for my normal size.

Why raw hem and distressed denim?

Because even though it’s a bit ridiculous {ok, fine, really ridiculous} buying jeans that already look worn in. They’re casual enough for when I’m just doing things around the house, but also cool enough that if I randomly have to go out somewhere. I don’t need to go through the trouble of changing into something “more appropriate” for leaving the house.

It’s a win all around 😄

Slogan Tops

I’m such a sucker for trendy slogan tops. I think they’re a great way to add a little spunk to jeans or dress down a party skirt.

If the slogan is funny, uplifting, or just really intune with pop culture it’s added to my cart where it’ll sit and I’ll have an internal debate over should I get it or should I not.

But the great thing about most slogan tops is that they’re usually pretty inexpensive, making it easier to say yes.

At least that’s what I like to tell myself 🙈 😅

Feminine Detailing

I’m by no means a girly-girl when it comes to my style {or life in general}. I’d always opt for things that are more casual and cool than frilly and cute.

But not gonna lie – the growing trend of ruffles, lace, and blousy tops is making me do a double take and rethink my life choices.

Don’t be surprised if you see one or two of these girly-chic tops popping up on the blog this year.

Bold Jewelry

I’ve always lived by the rule ‘less is more’ when it comes to jewelry.

And while that still remains true, it doesn’t mean I can’t have fun with it.

Mostly I’m talking about oversize earrings with tassels and pom poms in colors that POP!

Tailored Midi Skirts

Midi skirts have pretty much become a style staple. And I have my fair share of swirly skirts that I can give a good twirl in.

But sometimes I like to trim it up and a tailored midi skirt would do just the trick.

Paired with a slogan top for a playful weekend look or dressed up for date night with a more feminine blouse.

Options. They’re a must.

Exaggerated Sleeves

Exaggerated sleeves were THE it trend of 2017 – the more outrageous and over-the-top, the better.

Now they may not be the most practical top for everyday, especially for a stay-at-home mom {eek! that’s me 😳}.

But I think it’d be fun to bust one out every now and then for a night out or if I’m just feeling fancy one day.

They’re a great option for dressing up jeans and other basics.

And like I said before – options. They do a wardrobe good. 😉

And that’s about it from me!

Now I’d love to hear from you.

As always – thanks for reading, commenting, and sharing this post!

  • I have to get on the prints wagon. I like polka dots and sequence but prints arent always my thing. I do know that Asos has some very cute skinny jeans that I need. I have to say that their curve selection has grown quite a bit. Some things I can get from the straight side.

    • Yesss! Definitely jump on the prints wagon – it’s a good time 😄 And I agree, the ASOS Curve collection has grown quite a lot, which is great to see 🙌🏾

      Thanks for commenting love!
