7 Most Memorable Moments of 2017

Can you believe weโ€™re about to close out 2017?

I thought moving to London would be the pinnacle of excitement for a few years, but 2017 totally proved me wrong.

Iโ€™d like to pretend that Iโ€™m someone who practices reflection and gratitude throughout the year, but nay – I wait and cram it all in at the end of the year just like everyone else.

And as cliche as it may be, I like doing it. Itโ€™s a nice way to reset my mind and refresh my spirit.

I should really try and do it more often…..ย ๐Ÿ‘€

But thatโ€™s neither here nor there, Iโ€™m doing it now.

And while it felt like the only thing I did this year was get pregnant and push a baby out. When I really think about it, there were quite a few memorable moments outside of getting knocked up ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ

So letโ€™s take a walk down memory lane with 7 of my most memorable moments of 2017.

Spoiler alertseveral of them have to do with being pregnant ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ

My 7 Most Memorable Moments of 2017

7. Our first visit back to the U.S. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

What a whirlwind of a trip that was. First Chicago for a week then down to Florida, it was really nice seeing familiar faces and places after almost a year away.

While Iโ€™ll always love Chicago, leaving and coming back put quite a few things into perspective for me.

One – Iโ€™m glad we left when we did, and two – Iโ€™m not ready to come back permanently – to Chicago or the U.S. in general.

Thereโ€™s a lot of issues going on in our country that need to be worked out before than happens, if ya know what I meanโ€ฆ.

6. Our 2 Year Wedding Anniversary

If Iโ€™m being honest, a 2 year wedding anniversary isnโ€™t that big of a deal when youโ€™ve been together for almost 7 years. But this one sticks out in my mind because DCT put in so much effort to celebrate it.

I was going on my ninth month of pregnancy and couldnโ€™t be bothered with anything besides being 9 months pregnant ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿพ

I had zero expectations for anything – to me it was just another day closer to getting this baby out of me {I was very over being pregnant at this point} – which is why I was genuinely surprised at DCTโ€™s insistence that we do something.

He pushed for us to get a little dressed up and go out to dinner, even though it was to a local restaurant around the corner. And then surprised me with not one, but TWO cards {he rarely ever does cards} and tickets to see Kinky Boots on the West End ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿพ

Needless to say our 2 year anniversary turned out to be more than I ever wouldโ€™ve expected.

5. Weekend in Marseille

We didnโ€™t get to travel around Europe as much as I wouldโ€™ve liked this past year, but I did cross one place off my bucket list – Marseille!

Itโ€™s a sweet little French town on the Mediterranean sea, with gorgeous seaside views and the tastiest seafood.

It made for a nice little escape from the hustle and bustle of London. Our Airbnb was to DIE for. And Iโ€™d totally go back, especially to stay near the beach and do more water activities like visit the calanques.

4. Surprising my Grandparents

Our final trip before baby was another jaunt back to the U.S. to visit extended family and have a proper baby shower.

But the best part by far was surprising my Grandparents with our visit. They had no idea that weโ€™d be there and it was really special to spend time with my Grandma before the little one made his appearance.

3. Finding out I was pregnant

Twas the year of being pregnant, so it seems only right that one of my most memorable moments was finding out I was pregnant.

DCT claims to have known I was pregnant all along – I, on the other hand, was in denial.

But after a week of period pains and no sign of my period, I decided to take a test {okay, three ๐Ÿ˜…}.

And lo and behold, they all said – youโ€™re about to have a baby! ๐Ÿคฐ๐Ÿพ

I still remember the mixture of emotions I had looking at those test results – excitement, fear, shock, fear, pride, and did I mention fear? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜…

It was the start of a whole new adventure.

2. Finding out the gender

I mentioned this in my gender reveal post, but I was for certain that I was going to have a girl.

All the wives tales and pregnancy myths of how to tell what sex your baby is pointed to girl. My โ€œmommy instinctโ€ told me it was a girl. The only names I had lined up were for girls. It had to be a girl.

But then it was a boy.

And despite all my preparation for it being a girl, I was absolutely thrilled to be having a boy.

And canโ€™t imagine it being any other way.

1. Meeting Mason Fox

Like I said, twas the year of being pregnant so of course meeting our baby boy for the first time is my most memorable moment of the year.

Iโ€™m still in the process of writing his birth story – itโ€™s been months in the making ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ But without going into too much detail – having Mason placed in my arms the first time is something I will never forget.

The first thing I noticed was all that hair on his head, and the way his face scrunches up like a little old man when he cries, and those cheeks – how could you miss those cheeks ๐Ÿ‘ผ๐Ÿพ

Itโ€™s amazing what the female body can create.

And despite the early mornings, middle of the night wakings, constant questioning of whether Iโ€™m doing this right, and general daily exhaustion – Iโ€™m so happy this year brought this little guy into our lives.
