Holiday Party Season

Happy Holidays….

Christmas is just around the bend – can you believe it?

I’m closing out the week with a handful of holiday festivities from your classic office party to a fun and casual friendsmas. Then come next week we’re off to see my parents for a Christmas in Deutschland – something I haven’t done in YEARS and something DCT has never experienced – Christmas with the Mosleys.

If it wasn’t obvious from the Christmas tree and abundance of sparkles in these photos – this is what I’ve planned for my holiday party look.

Some glitter, a touch of leopard, and whole lot of velvet.

This skirt is – simply put – MAGIC.

Metallic, pleated, and velvet {just a few of my favorite things} – my heart skipped a beat the moment I saw it, I held my breath as I scrambled through the rack trying to find my size, and once I did I clutched it to me daring anyone, ANYONE to try and take it away {even though absolutely no one was paying attention to me & my crazy}.

I knew it was a winner when I had not one, not two, but THREE people stop and ask me where I found that skirt before I even tried it on.

Now I will be completely open and honest here.

To preface, I’m usually more than helpful when it comes to sharing fashion finds.

But I must admit – I gave very vague directions, borderline straight-up lied, on where I found this skirt in the store.

It’s a big store, loads of people running here and there getting their shopping on, it’s easy to get turned around, so I basically just pointed to the general area with no further information.

Why wasn’t I more forthcoming with information, you ask?

Well mostly because I’m a firm believer in creating your own destiny and if they were meant to find the skirt, they’d find it….

…..but really it’s because I wanted to keep this gem all to myself…..

😀

I don’t know about you, but I feel like velvet is totally having a moment this holiday season.

It inevitably crops up every year, just like sequins, but this year I feel it’s especially prevalent.

Blazers, skits, dresses, trousers – you name it, it’s probably been done in velvet {even the head wrap I’m wearing is in velvet}.

I could be making this all up in my head and be the only one especially enchanted by it, which is why I notice all the items in velvet before anything else.

Either way, I think it’s a great holiday piece especially when in silver, gold, or a rich jewel-toned hue – while not as aggressively party-licious as sequins, it still packs a solid festive punch.

Are you into velvet this season? What’s your holiday party look consist of?

Would love to hear in the comments!
